Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus Review: The Sweet Spot in Samsung Lineup

The Galaxy Tab S9 Plus occupies the middle ground in Samsung’s flagship tablet trio, and it may be the smartest choice of the three. At $999, you get the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and S Pen as the Ultra, wrapped in a more portable 12.4-inch form factor with a stunning Dynamic AMOLED 2X display.

How We Reviewed: Our assessment is based on real-world battery drain and app performance testing and benchmark testing alongside competing models. Ratings reflect hands-on testing, benchmark data, and real-world usage. Our recommendations are editorially independent and not influenced by advertising.

Display: AMOLED Excellence at 12.4 Inches

The Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel runs at 2800 x 1752 resolution with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Colors are rich and accurate, blacks are perfectly inky, and the 120Hz refresh makes everything from scrolling to drawing feel fluid. Peak brightness hits approximately 930 nits in auto-brightness mode.

HDR10+ streaming on Netflix and Disney+ renders with impressive dynamic range. Compared to the Tab S9 FE LCD panel, the jump to AMOLED is immediately noticeable in dark room viewing. The 12.4-inch size offers enough room for comfortable split-screen multitasking while remaining manageable as a handheld device. For most users, this is the ideal tablet display size.

Performance: Flagship Power

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM makes this functionally identical to the Ultra in raw performance. Geekbench 6 multi-core scores exceed 5,100. Real-world performance means instant app launches, seamless multitasking with three apps in split view, and Genshin Impact at maximum settings sustaining 55 to 60fps.

Video editing in LumaFusion with 4K footage runs smoothly, and exporting a 10-minute 4K project takes around 4 minutes. The vapor chamber cooling system keeps sustained performance consistent with minimal thermal throttling.

S Pen and Creative Work

The bundled S Pen matches the Ultra specifications: 4,096 pressure levels, sub-3ms latency, and Bluetooth connectivity for Air Actions. The 12.4-inch screen provides a generous canvas without the ergonomic challenges of the Ultra’s massive panel. Artists who draw with their arm elevated find this size more comfortable for extended sessions.

Clip Studio Paint, Infinite Painter, and ibisPaint X all perform excellently with reliable pressure sensitivity and palm rejection. Samsung Notes handles handwriting-to-text conversion with impressive accuracy, and the S Pen stores magnetically on the back for wireless charging.

Software and DeX

One UI 6.1 on Android 14 brings Samsung’s full tablet feature set including the persistent taskbar, Edge Panels, and Good Lock customization modules. Samsung DeX transforms the interface into a desktop environment with floating, resizable windows. Paired with the Book Cover Keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse, the Tab S9 Plus becomes a competent laptop alternative.

Samsung promises four major Android updates and five years of security patches, extending support through 2028. This commitment makes the S9 Plus a viable long-term investment.

Battery and Charging

The 10,090mAh battery delivers 11 to 13 hours of screen-on time with mixed use. Video streaming at moderate brightness reaches approximately 15 hours. Intensive multitasking and gaming reduce this to 6 to 8 hours. Charging at 45W fills the battery from zero to full in approximately 75 minutes.

Build and Audio

The aluminum unibody with Armor Aluminum frame feels premium and rigid. At 586 grams, it strikes a balance between the lightweight Tab S9 at 498 grams and the hefty Ultra at 732 grams. IP68 certification protects against water and dust. Quad AKG-tuned speakers with Dolby Atmos deliver rich, room-filling audio with impressive bass response and wide stereo separation.

The Verdict

The Galaxy Tab S9 Plus is the Goldilocks tablet in Samsung’s lineup. It delivers flagship performance and AMOLED display quality without the Ultra’s portability compromises and higher price. Unless you specifically need a 14.6-inch canvas, the S9 Plus handles creative work, productivity, entertainment, and DeX-powered desktop replacement with equal confidence. Score: 8.8 out of 10.
